Why is it that vampires now...?
I think vampires represent the authors society problems, concerning Dracula and the vampire Lestat. The problem with Twilight is that vampires are usually portrayed so the readers and lust after them. Stephanie Meyer has done that with her some of her vampire characters. Dracula is described as beautiful and evil. Edward is described as beautiful and a prude. The things all vampires still have in common is their beauty, paleness (with the exception of Blacula), and lust fullness. It was a lot darker in the time of Bram Stoker compared to 2011, which is why Stoker portrayed his character that way. Nowadays, Americans are not very open to the idea of talking about everything.
